MPC Newsletter 02 — Regional Classification Workshop
Malé will host a regional workshop from 16 to 18 November 2026 to strengthen Para sport classification capacity.
The Maldives is set to host the South Asian Para-Sports Regional Classification Workshop in Malé from 16 to 18 November 2026, supporting efforts to strengthen Para sport classification capacity in the Maldives and across the South Asian region.
The Maldives Paralympic Committee opened 16 places for Maldivian medical professionals interested in developing their knowledge and expertise in Para sport classification. Eligible participants include doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and other qualified healthcare professionals with an interest in contributing to the development of the Paralympic Movement.
Classification is a fundamental part of Para sport. It determines whether athletes are eligible to compete within a particular Para sport and helps ensure that competition is structured fairly according to the impact of an athlete's impairment on sporting performance.
Building a stronger pool of trained classifiers in the Maldives will therefore contribute directly to athlete development and the long-term growth of competitive Para sport in the country.
Participants selected for the workshop will receive training certification, while the Maldives Paralympic Committee will also work with relevant authorities to support their release from work during the programme.
Hosting the regional workshop represents another important step towards developing local technical expertise and strengthening the systems needed to support Maldivian Para athletes from grassroots participation through to international competition.
